Five Finger Maidenhair Fern

Five Finger (Northern) Maidenhair Fern Adiantum pedatum

A great cold hardy fern that is native to large areas of the U.S.A. and Canada.

It will form clumps or small spreading colonies in its native locations.

It may be found in limestone soils as well as acidic soils.

Its soft fluffy appearing fronds look delicate, but it is a very hardy fern in moist, well draining soil and will grow in full sun in the north if the soil is moist. It is deciduous in the north.

Hardy in Zones 2-8 and grows to a height of 12-30 inches, Five Finger Fern has a spreading habit , but not invasive , at least not in my area.

I like this fern it is a nice airy fern,  seems very delicate to the touch., but is very hardy.

Happy Gardening
