Sprengeri Fern Asparagus sprengeri
Another asparagus plant that is not a fern, but has a ferny appearance in nature.
It is a very popular plant with many uses. It is popular for hanging baskets as it will survive much neglect. It is also used as a trailing plant in combination color planters.
In the deep south it is commonly used as a large ground cover in full sun and if frozen, the tops turn a lovely straw color until spring.
It is root hardy and comes back well if the freezes are not severe.
Annual in most zones except Zones 9-11
Like sun to partial shade area.
