Lady in Red Fern Athyrium angustum forma rubellum
Lady In Red™ is an exciting new tissue cultured introduction from a exceptional plant with vibrant burgundy stipe (stem), which creates a sharp contrast with its green fronds.
It was found by the New England Wildflower Society in the woodlands of Massachusetts.
It has some unusual growth requirements to obtain the intense red color in the red stems of an established plant.
It should not be fertilized with nitrogen as it stimulates the production of green chlorophyll, which masks the red color.
Plants must undergo winter dormancy for bright color and full color does not occur until the second dormancy and maturity in the garden.
Hardy in Zones 3-8
Grows to a height of 30-36 inches.
I love the red veining of this Lady In Red , and what a nice name.. It is going to be a beauty!
Happy Gardening
